Worship centered on the Lunar Mother, believed by her followers to be the source of the shapeshifting gift.
The gift: Not everyone receives it — only those with a purpose. Each person who receives the gift has exactly one form, locked to wolves only in the current age.
The two outcomes of Lunfael (the yearly trial):
- The Guardian: A partial or hybrid wolf transition. The fierce, protective form. Guardians are the defenders of the clan, the teeth and muscle of the order.
- The Priestess: A full wolf transition, a complete ascension into the beast. Priestesses are considered one with the Lunar Mother and the wilderness itself.
- The human: No transformation occurs. The clan has no formal role for this outcome.
Minnoe's forms (hidden truth — see hidden body): Bear, Wolf, Spirit Bear (conditional, surfaces when truly needed), Spirit Wolf (conditional, surfaces when truly needed).
Cultural memory and distortion: The clan and the wider world only know fragments of the truth — that people "used to change into a lot more," and that the ability is treated as dangerous. Over time the meaning of this fear shifted: originally "others will kill you for this, so hide it," it has twisted into "the congregation will hunt you because it's seen as a corruption of the Lunar Mother's power." The fear is the same shape, but its justification and source have been forgotten and replaced.
Town vs. holy site: Most of the clan lives in the town of Wickmere itself; the actual holy site exists deeper in the Silver Flame Forest. The town treats the gift and the old stories largely as myth — even many residents look away from what's happening among their own.
Lunfael: The one night per year when the Silver Flame Forest's bark glows like candle flames in the moonlight. The goddess only has enough power to grant the gift once a year, on this night. The beauty of it is real but the scarcity behind it is a symptom of her diminished state.
